Road4Trip
The short version: Road4Trip collects nothing and sends nothing.
None. Road4Trip does not collect, store or transmit any personal data to the developer or to third parties.
There is no user account, no registration, no analytics tools, no advertising and no trackers.
The app does use iCloud – but your own. Everything Road4Trip stores sits in your own Apple Account, not on a server run by the developer. The developer has no access to it and does not learn that this data exists.
The routes, stops, dates, notes and ratings you enter are stored on your iPhone.
If you are signed in to iCloud, Road4Trip additionally syncs them between your own devices – iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Apple’s privacy terms for iCloud apply.
Photos are not transferred by default. Whether they are included is up to you, under Settings → Sync.
Without signing in to iCloud everything stays on the device, and the app keeps working in full.
If you share a trip via “Plan with others”, Road4Trip stores a copy of that one trip in your iCloud and grants access to the people you invite. Name, notes, date and the stops are transferred – no photos, no history and no other routes.
Those invited can suggest stops and vote. These contributions are visible to everyone involved in the trip.
Sharing only happens when you trigger it, and can be revoked at any time – through the same sheet you used to invite. The developer of Road4Trip is not part of this share and cannot see it.
If you turn backups on, Road4Trip stores a copy of your routes in your personal iCloud Drive – in the “Road4Trip” folder. A switch decides whether photos are included.
This data stays in your own Apple Account. It does not go to the developer of Road4Trip and not to third parties; Apple’s privacy terms for iCloud apply.
You can delete stored backups yourself at any time in the Files app.
If you add a trip as an event, Road4Trip asks for permission to write events – not to read them. So the app does not see your calendar.
Road4Trip can use your location to show you on the map. The location is processed on the device only, never stored and never transmitted.
You can withdraw the permission in the iPhone settings at any time – the app remains usable.
When you search for a place or a route is calculated, these requests go through Apple’s maps service. Apple’s privacy terms apply.
The provider of Road4Trip learns nothing about them.
When Road4Trip calculates the ascent and descent of a route, the app sends the coordinates of the calculated route to the map service of the Federal Office of Topography (swisstopo). Only elevation values come back.
Only coordinates are transmitted – no name, no identifier, nothing about you or your device. This happens only for trips within Switzerland and only for hiking, walking and cycling.
The privacy policy of swisstopo applies.
If you share a trip with others, you can share your location with each other during the ride. This is off until you explicitly turn it on within the trip.
While it is running, your location goes to the people invited to this particular trip – to nobody else. Only your most recent location is stored, and it is overwritten the next time. No track and no movement profile is created.
When you turn it off, your location is deleted immediately. If you forget, it disappears by itself at the latest 30 minutes after the last update, and a group trip ends after twelve hours at the latest. If the trip is no longer shared, everything belonging to it disappears.
The data is stored in your iCloud, or in that of the person sharing. The provider of Road4Trip has no access to it.
If a trip has a date within the next ten days, Road4Trip fetches the weather for it from Apple. To do so, the coordinates of individual stops and the planned time are sent to Apple’s weather service.
Only these coordinates are transmitted – no name, no identifier, nothing about you or your device. Your own location is not used for this. The forecast is not stored anywhere.

When you start a route, Road4Trip hands the coordinates of your stops to the maps app you chose. From that moment on, its privacy terms apply.
This handover only happens when you trigger it yourself.
Since the developer collects no personal data, there are no records held by them about which information could be given or which could be deleted.
Control over your content lies entirely with you: on your device, and in your Apple Account. What is stored there can be viewed and deleted at any time in the iPhone settings under “Apple Account → iCloud”.
Should future versions gain further features that let data leave the device, this statement will be adjusted beforehand and pointed out in the app.
